When I think Amanda Joyce, I usually just think Mommy. But I guess there’s a little more to it than that. Obviously being a mom is a huge part of my identity. Even as a kid, my ultimate goal in life was to adopt special needs kids and be a mom. Everyone insisted I would change my mind about the adoption part, but I never did. I’ve always said I have no interest in pushing one of those out of one of these! I had a double major in college, elementary education and psychology. I chose those majors because I thought they would be the best options to help me be the best mom I could be.
I first became a mom in the form of a therapeutic foster mother. I’ve had 21 foster kids come through my home. Once I got tired of the system and was ready for a family of my own, I stopped fostering and found my kids online. They lived across the country and I knew it was meant to be. I spend a lot of time with my kids. Between homeschooling and not having a second parent, I don’t spend a lot of time on me, which is not at all a complaint.
Besides being Mommy, Amanda The Person is hidden in there somewhere too. I grew up in Rochester, NY and other than in my college years, have lived here my whole life. I’ve always had a passion for traveling, doing so with my family as a kid and starting to venture out on my own at the age of 16. I’ve been to 13 countries outside the US and over half of the states here in America. I like to kayak, hike, watch documentaries and stand up comedy, pet puppies, and eat. The way to my heart is through ice cream and chocolate. Or cheesecake. Or cookies. Or brownies. Or ….. Ok getting off track!
I’m a pretty simple girl. I don’t wear much makeup or “do” my hair. I say what I mean and mean what I say, bluntly. I’m frugal, free is one of my favorite words. I’m easily amused and tend to laugh a lot. I’m a night owl. I’m messy, the queen of piles. I’m conservative. I hoard blankets and dinnerware. I’m scared of mice and sharks.
But mostly, I’m Mommy. ❤
